This was the second stay of our Babymoon trip to St. Croix. The Waves at Cane Bay is a boutique hotel, holding 11 suites. The style instantly caught my eye when we were looking for places. It was actually quite hard to find hotels when we started looking in St Croix; but this one was an absolute GEM. We stayed here over my 30th birthday from April 1-4th. It was a great time to visit St. Croix, the weather was fantastic.
Getting There:
We flew into the Henry E. Rohlsen Airport and had a jeep pre-booked. Renting a car is a must on this island, everything is very remote. Also, renting is always the best way to explore. Driving in St. Croix is on the left side of the road. Because there isn’t a ton of traffic its easy to catch on pretty quickly. The Waves at Cane Bay is on the North side of the island, perched on the side of a highway right next to the sea. The drive from Christiansted (the main town on the island) is about 25-30 minutes. Its a beautiful scenic drive. When you arrive, parking is on the side of a kind of busy road. It does not have a large entrance and parking lot available. Think of a tucked away hidden gem situation.
Impressions & Experience:
The main common area when you arrive has a beautiful outside seating area and cocktail bar overlooking the water. Palm trees and string lights, it was such a VIBE. We got in after the open office hours, the staff was very communicative and had everything ready for our arrival. From the moment we walked in the door we were blown away. The sound of the waves is truly overtaking and sensational. It lives up to it’s name, thats for sure! The suite had a beautifully updated kitchenette and bathroom when you enter. The feature of the room is really the view. There are expansive sliding doors that connect the suite to the ocean; open to an relaxing loungy patio. The doors were very sound proof, if you decided you didn’t want to hear the waves (because sometime they could be quite loud) the doors hid the sound well. On the property, down a few steps towards the ocean there is an award winning restaurant, the Ama at Cane Bay. One of the pictures that caught my eye of The Waves at Cane Bay property was a tidal pool - something that you would see in Europe. It sits right in front of the Ama at Cane Bay restaurant, there is patio seating right beside the pool that is a bit more private and romanic than the main deck seating area of the restaurant. Anywhere you sit, reservations are a MUST for this place. We had reservations for the patio beside the tidal pool, but because the weather was a bit choppy we had to sit on the upper deck - that was still just as dreamy. The waves crashing against the rocks with the ambiance of the entire place was a fairytale. To top it off, the drinks and food were delicious. If you didn’t want as fancy as a spot to eat, just down the road from the Waves Hotel there was a pizza spot that was walkable called Off The Wall. This place had a relaxed beach bum vibe to it. A little bit further (we drove) was another restaurant, The Landing Beach Bar at Cane Bay that sat directly across from Cane Beach. This was a more of a local beach which was nice to get a true sense of the island.
Would We Wake Up Here Again?
In a heartbeat! This was such a gem.
