River Street Starting Point
Alright, I’m finally ready (or have a moment rather) to share the “before” pictures, before the nitty gritty work begins. If your new around here, we purchased our first home in October under a crunch time of one month to find a place. Now if your familiar with the Massachusetts housing market, you know this is a damn near miracle to find something that quick. It’s certainly not the charming New England house that I imagined our first home would be, but for right now this checked a lot of the boxes that we needed for our family. What really sold us on this house was the amount of square footage it offered, they layout and the location. Lots of the houses that we looked out had the strangest layouts, being so old lots of them were puzzle pieced together with the master bedroom in one area and the rest of the bedrooms in another, or the laundry in the basement and bedrooms on top floor, or bathrooms didn’t match the bedrooms, there are some strange houses out there I tell ya. We also loved the location being so close to the beach, and commutable to Boston. Having a play room was a huge bonus for us, when you have kids, you know! I love how it has lots of light being south facing and plan on opening it up to even more light (light is life!). Some of the first things on our house to do list is to put up a wall in the office and get that painted so I can start to organize myself properly. Redoing the floors and painting. Those alone will have a huge impact on the overall feeling of the house. In the kitchen the upper cabinets will be coming down, and opening up the window with a larger window for some more light in this area. Moving the fridge to inset into the office (other side of the island), and redoing cabinets. We love that this house is livable for the moment, but we can design this house to be our own and style and modify how we like. When we were looking we didn’t want to overpay for a cookie cutter house that looks the same as the next, we want to infuse our own style and pick our own finishes, thats the beauty of this house that I was attracted to. Funny story.. when we first started looking Paul had sent me this listing and I said no, nothing about it inspired me and the design, etc. 3 weeks later when crunch time was on I decided I would go take a look at it, and now we are here. So, I guess the moral of the story is don’t judge a house by its pictures:) Well I hope you will enjoy following along the renovation process with me because I’m SO excited for this next project - not sure how excited I am to be living through it with a toddler, but time will tell, ha. Ta ta for now!
