Our BABYMOON ITINERARY In St. Croix
Last year at the end of March, early April we took our Babymoon to St. Croix. We decided on St. Croix as a babymoon destination because it was a place that was Zika free, something that Doctors recommend to stay away from when traveling while pregnant. Also it was a safe bet still technically being a part of the US, it made us feel a bit more safe traveling while pregnant. With that being said, I don’t know if I would recommend for a babymoon to others, but defiantly a cool place to see if you aren’t expecting! I am a very relaxed, go with the flow person (for most things) but the fact that it wasn’t very developed, if something happened that I needed medical attention that would have made me very uneasy being there. The island itself is very rustic and untouched, which is why it is such a beautiful island. The seclusion of the island was a great reset button, a moment of stillness before our lives were about to change. When planning trips we like to explore and do as much as we can the first half of the trip, and the last few days we like to relax and splurge more on relaxation. Now let’s hop in, here is our 6 full day itinerary on St. Croix.
We Stayed At:
Dates: March 29 - April 1, 2022
Hotel: The Buccaneer Hotel
Dates: April 1 - April 4, 2022
Hotel: The Waves at Cane Bay

- 6 DAY BABYMOON ITINERARY -
Day 1
TUESDAY MAY 29
Travel day! We flew out of Boston at 5:30am followed by a layover in Miami then arrived in St Croix about 2pm Tuesday. We had pre-booked a Jeep rental, the pickup was easy and conveniently located at the airport. Once we got the keys, we had to adjust to driving on the left side of the road, but Paul picked up on that quickly! We then headed straight to The Buccaneer Hotel and browsed around the property to get a lay of the land. That evening we ate dinner at one of the restaurants on the property. There are a few different restaurants, we ate at The Mermaid this night. It sat on the side of the beach, a covered outside seating style. Very nicely designed, you could tell this was a modern, more recent addition to the property. This concluded our first day.
Day 2
WEDNESDAY MAY 30
The morning was slow and relaxing. We walked up to the heart of the property and enjoyed the free, expansive breakfast buffet at The Terrace. They had a large selection, but like any buffet style, you want to get there earliest to get the best options. We were a bit late so a few things were running low. But it was still delicious. After breakfast we made our way down to another beach on the property, Grotto Beach. This was a beautiful beach that wasn’t very busy. We walked along the beach line to the end and back and really just enjoyed the morning here. Once we had as much sun as we could handle we got ready to explore St Croix’s largest town of Christiansted. Our exploring led us to the boardwalk along the sea with some tiny shops and restaurants. We had lunch at Brew STX, the food was delicious and fresh. The aftermath of hurricanes is still very noticeable in the town. A very rustic vibe. Chickens running around, a lot of vacant buildings, but there was still a handful of smaller cute shops to browse. We were careful not to leave anything in the vehicle when we left the Jeep, St. Croix is known to have vehicles broken into. It was actually advised that we don’t lock the doors so that in the case that someone wanted to take something the windows wouldn’t get smashed… so we kept our belongings close with us and didn’t lock the doors. With this being said during the day we didn’t feel uncomfortable at all walking around the town. After exploring the town we adventured along the coastline to see a bit more of the island. It’s a good thing we had a jeep, the roads could get a bit rugged. The rest of the day we spent on a drive around the island, we ended up at Rhythms Beach Bar at Rainbow Beach. It was a vibey little spot on the beach, a perfect spot to watch the sun set over the ocean. After the grand finale of a sunset we headed back home.
Day 3
THURSDAY MAY 31
We decided to take a Hi-Speed Ferry over to St. Johns since it was relatively close (2 hr) by speed ferry. However that day the waters were extremely choppy and being pregnant (or not) was a good idea. Once we arrived we found a spot for breakfast (can’t recall the name) and shopped around the jewelry district. There was a lot more hustle and bustle here. It was nice to retreat back to the more quiet, relaxed vibe of St Croix after our day adventure. We explored the town of Cruz Bay, lots of little shops to explore. This is a known place for jewelry shopping. Once I found a little treasure we made our way back to the port for our expedition home. This evening we ate at Hamilton’s that had to be one of the best restaurants on the island. The chef was only 19 years old and the food was absolutely divine. This was the only night that we went into the town of Christiansted for dinner. Although we never had any uncomfortable situations specifically, you definitely want to keep on your toes. Stuffed and happy,
Day 4
FRIDAY APRIL 1
In the morning we packed up and hit the road to pick up breakfast at Twin City Coffee House. This was a cute little spot with fresh food, family run. We didn’t want to leave our suitcases in the car unattended so we grabbed the breakfast to go. We had lots of time before checkin at our next hotel, so we decided to drive the entire island. It took about 3 hours; we ended up at our hotel as the final destination. On the drive we stopped at an iconic spot, Point Udall. This is the easternmost point of the United States. The monument is a sundial that acted as the azimuth for the first U.S. sunrise of the new millennium. This would be a fabulous place to watch the sunrise. The views were incredible in any direction that you looked. We continued our journey around the island making a few more pit stops at view points along the way. We finally arrived at our new hotel, The Waves at Cane Bay. You can read our full experience at The Waves Hotel here. We had a drink on the patio then relaxed for the evening on our patio until dinner. A few minutes down the road we found some dinner at The Landing Beach Bar. This place was a happening spot, live music and a large menu. It was directly across from a local beach, it was evident that this was a popular spot any time of the day. It was about .3 miles from our hotel, so very walkable or quick drive. This was a perfecting ending to our adventurous day.
Day 5
SATURDAY APRIL 2
My birthday day! We had booked a Big Beards Adventure Tours - Full Day Tour - this was absolutely a highlight of our trip. The tour ran from 9:30am - 3:30pm, leaving from a central location at the boardwalk. It took us out to Buck Island, where we got to experience Turtle Beach, without a doubt this was the most beautiful beach I’ve ever been to. The softest white sand, clearest blue water, it was a dream. The tour company did such a fantastic job, profession and funny - great tour qualities to have. The first half of the tour we visited Turtle Island and the second half was snorkeling. I am not a water person so I just enjoyed watching Paul play fishy here. After the tour we headed back to our hotel room at The Waves Hotel and got ready for dinner. We enjoyed a sunset drink on the upper patio of the property until our reservation was ready at the island famous Ama at Cane Bay Restaurant. This was absolutely a divine dining experience by the sea. The ocean crashing on the rocks, the food, the overall ambiance. A spectacular way to end the already 10/10 day.
Day 6
SUNDAY APRIL 3
Today was a chill day of exploring. The morning we ventured back to the east of the island to Ziggy's Island Market, this was a breakfast spot that someone on the boat recommended to us from the day before. It was a unique set up for food, a combination of a gas station / BBQ breakfast and bar. It was certainly a island vibe… the food was abundant and delicious. We enjoyed this spot for a bit then continued to circle around our drive to the east and south and west side of the island. We stopped at a few beaches and viewpoints along the way. Eventually we made our way to Mt. Pellier Domino Club where the famous beer drinking pigs live. Don’t worry they were non-alcoholic beers. After our entertaining rainforest pit stop we went back to the hotel for a quick rest then walked over to the casual pizza place that was highly recommended, Off The Wall. It was a few minute walk from the hotel, it was an idyllic spot for pizza and sunset watching to cap off the day.
Day 7
MONDAY APRIL 4
Our flight was 3pm in the afternoon. This let us enjoy one last relaxing morning on the island. Our return flight had a quick layover in Miami, we were back in Boston 11:30pm that night.
The Buccaneer Hotel
5007 Estate, Christiansted, St Croix
When we began our accomodation search in St. Croix it was
Grotto Beach
You could walk down to this beach from The Buccaneer Hotel resort.
Rhythms Beach Bar at Rainbow Beach
A casual spot with tasty beach side drinks. This was a fabulous place to watch the sunset over the ocean.
Ziggy's Island Market
The Town of Christiansted, St Croix
St John’s Island For The Day
Since there wasn’t that much to do on the island we decided to explore over to St Johns for a day. We took the high speed ferry that took around an hour. I would not recommend this while pregnant, it was such a choppy ride (due to the weather and the speed), however the ride back was much better. Right when you get off the ferry you can walk to the main strip
Mt. Pellier Domino Club (Where You’ll Find Beer Drinking Pigs)
Nestled in the forest there is a quirky hut called Mr Pellier Domino Club where we found the famous beer drinking pigs. Don’t worry it wasn’t non-alcoholic O'doul's beer. You can grab lunch here, or just a drink like us. They take out groups every so often once they have enough visitors to go in. You have to buy the O'doul's to take to the pigs. Once the group is ready they lead-you into the pig area and give you the introduction to each piggy. It is quite a hysterical thing to see for any age.
Driving Around The Island
Point Udall
Buck Island
We took the Big Beard's Adventure Tour, Full Day Sail Tour. It was definitely a highlight of our trip, and a MUST when in St. Croix. Buck Island is a National Wildlife refuge meaning that it is a protected area. This was absolutely the most beautiful beach that I’ve ever been to, it had the cleanest blue water and the softest sand. Big Beards did a fantastic job of touring us around, we got about an hour to explore the beach. After the beach stop they tour you to the other side of the island for about an hour of snorkeling. I am not much of a water person myself but this is supposed to be a beautiful snorkeling location.
